Job Opportunity: Baker

Location: Common Restaurant Job Type: Full-Time (Approx. 40 Hours/Week)

Common Restaurant is seeking a passionate, detailed-oriented, and skilled culinary professional to join our team as a Baker. This role is the heartbeat of our in-house Trombone Bakery program. You will be responsible for crafting the staples of our guest experience—from our signature sourdough and fresh handmade pastas to the delicate pastries served in our private event space. We are looking for someone who respects the craft of scratch baking, possesses strong time-management skills, and thrives in the diverse environment of the bakery - from early morning quiet to the hustle and bustle of peak production.

Compensation & Earnings

  • Base Pay: $16 per hour
  • Additional Income: Tip out based on sales
  • Pay frequency: Weekly pay periods directly deposited into your bank. Direct deposit is required.


Schedule Expectations

This is an early morning, dayside position with shifts typically beginning at 7am. This position is considered full-time with five shifts a week. Weekend availability (Saturday and Sunday) is required.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibility of this position is the production of our daily bread, including sourdough, VIP Parker House Roles, baguettes, and buns. This position will also assist with increased production for the weekly Midtown Farmers Market, private events, and holiday orders. In addition, the person in this position will also be trained to assist with our fresh pasta program and dessert production. 

  • Bread & Sourdough Program: Managing the daily health and feeding of our starters; mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking our signature sourdough and other breads to meeting daily par levels.
  • Fresh Pasta Production: Assisting to hand-craft fresh pasta varieties as needed for the dinner service, ensuring consistent texture, shape, and portioning.
  • Pastry & Event Prep: Assisting to create high-quality desserts and pastries for "The Room at Common" private events and restaurant dessert menus, including plating and finishing touches as needed.
  • Kitchen Sanitation: Maintaining a pristine workspace, cleaning equipment (mixers, sheeters, ovens) after use, and adhering to all health and safety guidelines.
  • Off-site programming: Assisting to fulfill increased orders for the weekly farmers market and food festivals, as needed. This position may also be trained to work the famers market tent.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a bakery or high-volume restaurant kitchen.
  • Ability to work early mornings and weekends.
  • Ability to attend shifts as scheduled reliably. 
  • Physical ability to walk up and down flights of stairs multiple times a day; squat; lift and reach overhead; bend at the waist; twist; and to stand for long periods of time without a break.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work both independently and within a small team.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with sourdough fermentation and/or fresh pasta production is highly preferred.

Maitre D / Service Captain

Job Opportunity: Maitre d' / Service Captain

Location: Common Restaurant Job Type: Full-Time (Approx. 40 Hours/Week)

Common Restaurant is seeking a charismatic, organized, and experienced hospitality professional to join our  team as a Maitre d' / Service Captain.

This role anchors our Front Desk operations. You will be the face of the restaurant for our guests while simultaneously acting as the operational lead for our support staff. We are looking for someone who takes pride in hospitality standards, possesses high emotional intelligence, and thrives in a fast-paced dining environment.

Compensation & Earnings

  • Base Pay: $23.00 per hour.

  • Additional Income: Tip share based on dining room sales.

  • Pay frequency: Weekly pay periods directly deposited into your bank.

Schedule Expectations: Schedule rotates between 5 nights a week from 3pm - close of restaurant and 2 nights a week with weekend day shifts (Friday, Saturday, & Sundays) from 9am - 4pm

Key Responsibilities

As the Maitre d' / Service Captain, you will bridge the gap between the management team and the service floor. Your duties include:

  • Guest Flow Management: Expertly managing the OpenTable guest book to optimize seating, accommodate reservations, and book future reservations.

  • Front Desk Operations: Running the door with poise; warmly receiving walk-ins, managing waitlists, and setting the tone for the guest experience from the moment they arrive.

  • Team Leadership: Working closely with the Service Assistant (SA) team to ensure the dining room is maintained, tables are reset promptly, and service flows smoothly.

  • Closing Duties: Acting as a key holder responsible for occasionally closing the restaurant and securing the premises (locking up) at the end of the night.

  • Hospitality Standards: Working closely with General Management to uphold and enforce company hospitality standards, ensuring every guest leaves happy and every shift runs according to protocol.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a high-volume restaurant environment is required.

  • Proficiency with OpenTable or similar reservation systems is highly preferred.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to delegate tasks to support staff effectively.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as business dictates.

  • Professional grooming and presentation.
